The sofa is also the most used furniture in our home, besides that the sofa is one of the high-traffic areas of the home as both by host and guest use it on an everyday basis. The importance of the sofa in the home is not allowed to be overestimated. It hosts our cup of tea and refreshment. When the usage is so high, expecting a lot of waste, stains, dirt, and a lot of other things can make it look dry and dusty.

There has been a particular occurrence, where the bad cleaning methodology has smashed the good furniture. You must have proper knowledge about the materials and structure used in your sofa.

Vacuum the Couch

For a better result use a brush attachment or simply hand vacuum on your vacuum cleaner to clean the surface of the couch. The professional cleaner also starts the job by vacuuming first. Be sure to clean the corners where food crumbs, pet hairs, and dust particle accumulates. Clean the cushions from both sides.

Clean the Metal or Wood Areas

Clean the metal or wood areas of the sofa with the solution of warm water and all time available dishwasher. Wipe the feet and another non-fabric part of the sofa with the solution.

  • Determine The Types of Fabric

There are different types of upholstery fabric including wool, leather, cotton, linen, silk, polyester, nylon, and hemp. By looking at the tag of the couch you can know which materials it is made up of. The labels and codes are provided over the tag. Here are labels and codes found on the couches.

WS: You can clean WS-coded fabric with a mild detergent steam vacuum or can clean with a dry-cleaning detergent.

S: Can only use dry cleaner detergent.

W: Can only use water.

X: only vacuuming, no water.

Removing of stains

The next thing you must know about sofa cleaning is removing different types of stains. You can simply clean the stains by applying commercial cleaning or you can also make the natural ingredients from the kitchen. Home cleaners are cheaper and kinder to the ecology.

Types of fabric and cleaning Methods

  • For leather upholstery

Mix half a cup of olive oil with ¼ cup of white vinegar and mix it well and store it in a spray bottle. Apply the mixture with a soft cotton cloth over the surface of the couch.

  • For synthetic upholstery

Mix half a cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of water and ½ a tablespoon of wish washer or Castrol oil. Apply the mixture to stains and wipe using soft cotton cloths.

  • For Fabric upholstery

Mix ¼ cup of vinegar, and ¾ part of warm water and add 1 tablespoon of Castrol oil or dishwasher. Store the mixture in a spray bottle. Wipe the stains and scrub them with a soft cotton cloth.

Homemade ingredients for sofa cleaning.

  • The mixture of vinegar and water
  • The mixture of baking soda and warm water
  • The mixture of water and detergent
  • The mixture of washing Soap and warm water
  • Let the Sofa Dry

By using a soft cotton cloth or kitchen towel to soak any excess water on the surface area sofa. Water can cause moisture and damage the fabric.
